Android susceptible to sophisticated clickjacking malware
Clickjacking rootkits could pose the next big threat for the Android platform, according to a research team out of North Carolina State University. Led by computer science professor Xuxian Jiang, the team has developed a prototype clickjacking rootkit -- which attacks the Android framework, rather than the kernel -- that's more sophisticated than the other Android-oriented malware already out there. My friends have chided me for cheering on Bill Snyder's provocative suggestion: Blow it up, Ballmer: Give away the Surface for free. Blow it up, Ballmer: Give away the Surface for free. Although I figure Snyder got the wrong Steve -- Sinofsky's most likely the one in the driver's seat -- and the proposal is obviously not realistic, I admire the sentiment. Microsoft's one huge advantage in coming out with its own Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT hardware is pricing. And the lower the Steves can go, the more Metro's going to sizzle in the marketplace. Bye bye, corporate phone
Some people don't do windows. Mark Egan, CIO at VMware, no longer does the corporate phone. Choosing to ride rather than duck the wave of bring-your-own-device (BYOD) adoption currently flooding corporate America, Egan last fall instituted a mandatory, 90-day window for employees at the virtualization software company to trade in their corporate-issued phones for their own personal devices and mobile phone plans -- leaving some workers unhappy at first. Twitter releases first report on gov't requests for user information
Twitter released a report on Monday about the user information requests it has received from governments this year and how it responded to them. The data shows that the U.S. government asked for information on far more users than any other country. Between Jan. 1 and June 30, Twitter received 679 requests for information from American authorities pertaining to 948 users. Read More
